I would just like to take a minute of your time to enlighten you to Odyssey in Bury St Edmunds.
Firstly, about me. I’m a 40 year old guy who is into snowboarding more than anything else when I’m not at work. I’ve been boarding for 10+ years and am so in love with my past time, that in 2018 season, I will be taking my BASI snowboarding instructors course.
I have a snowboard already but it was set up more for parks and jumps, I needed something more suited to piste and powder. With that in mind, I went about researching my next board set up. I visited various sites on the web, searching for that perfect deal. I honestly lost count of the companies I contacted asking for advice and getting value for money. This is where I very nearly came unstuck. It’s all well and good looking at stuff on the net, comparing prices, getting a package discount, and talking to people eager for you to part with your saved up pounds. I felt I was not getting EXACTLY what I wanted and to be honest, some people I spoke to didn’t seem to listen to what I needed and tried to sell me a board that was not suited to my ability and needs.
This is where Chris from Odyssey came in. Where do I start with this guy and his independently run shop? I put a phone call into him on a wet November Saturday afternoon totally confused as to what I now wanted due to all the sites I had visited and “sales pitches” I had heard from weeks of research. We started at the beginning and I told him what I wanted and why. The advice I got was second to none. Calm, not pushy, various options and a package deal that no other website could match. And when I say that, I’m talking £££!!! (yes three pound signs). Chris is not a “friend” so it wasn’t a “mates rates” deal. It was a decent guy just wanting to give me the help, advice and snowboard package any person should be afforded when parting with their hard earned cash. So the Tuesday after the phone call, I visited Chris. He had in stock the exact board and matched me up with the bindings to complement it. He talked me through the new Burton EST binding and how to adjust if I needed to. He set up my board taking care to ensure that I had understood what he had shown me. I went there with the sole intention of just a board/bindings package but ended up with the “holy trinity” of board/bindings/boots. There was no sales pitch from Chris to pressure me into this, it was a decision by myself but felt my new board deserved the boots too. The exact ones I wanted were not in stock but were ordered there and then after trying on the same boot but different colour.
So in conclusion, I know you can get deals off the internet and bargains that could possibly out do mine but I honestly doubt it. You can’t get the level of service that Chris and his shop have offered me from a computer. To be able to look and feel what I was getting before I parted with any money is invaluable.
Before you get that unbelievably awesome snowboard package from any well known site on the internet, please please call or go and see Chris first. He out done any deal I saw and more. See what he can do for you too.
Chris, you are a true gent and I will definitely coming back for all my snowboard needs in the future. The whole experience has been perfect. Credit to yourself and the shop you run. 10/10.
